Allegra

Allegra is taken for:

Preventing or treating symptoms of hay fever and other seasonal allergies such as stuffy nose, runny nose, sneezing, itching of the nose and throat, and itchy, watery eyes. It is and taken for preventing or treating chronic hives. It might and be taken for other conditions as determined by your physician.

Allegra is an antihistamine. It works by blocking the action of a chemical in the body called histamine. This reduces the symptoms of an allergic reaction.

Do NOT use Allegra if:

• you are allergic to any ingredient in Allegra
• you are taking efavirenz

Contact your physician or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before taking Allegra :

Some medical conditions might interact with Allegra . Tell your physician or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

• if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
• if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
• if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
• if you have kidney problems

Some MEDICINES MIGHT INTERACT with Allegra . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

• Efavirenz because side effects of Allegra , including unusual drowsiness, inability to sleep, tremors, convulsions (seizures), and lightheadedness (especially when standing), might be increased

How to use Allegra :

Use Allegra as directed by your physician. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

• Use Allegra by mouth with or without food.
• Drinking extra fluids while you are taking Allegra is recommended. Check with your physician for instructions.
• Do not use an antacid that has aluminum or magnesium in it within 1 hour before or 2 hours after you use Allegra .
• Avoid drinking apple, grapefruit, or orange juice while taking Allegra .
• If you miss a dose of Allegra , use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your natural dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at one time.

Ask your health care provider any questions you might have about how to use Allegra .

Important safety information:

• Allegra might cause drowsiness or dizziness. These effects might be worse if you use it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Allegra with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.
• Do not drink alcohol or use medicines that might cause drowsiness (eg, sleep aids, muscle relaxers) while you are taking Allegra ; it might add to their effects. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines might cause drowsiness.
• Do not use more than the recommended dose or use for longer than prescribed without checking with your physician.
• Use Allegra with caution in the ELDERLY; they might be more sensitive to its effects.
• Allegra should not be taken in CHILDREN younger than 6 years old; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed.
• PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, contact your physician. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of taking Allegra while you are pregnant. It is not known if Allegra is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use Allegra , check with your physician. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Allegra :

All medicines might cause side effects, however many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your physician if any of these most GENERAL side effects persist or become bothersome:

Back pain; coughing; dizziness; earache; fever; headache; menstrual cramps; stomach upset; stuffy nose; upper respiratory tract infection.

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue).

Store Allegra at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and thin. Do not store in the bathroom. Store Allegra out of the reach of children and away from pets.
